Paintblogging: Frankenstein Vs the Sludge Monster II

Ok another shot at this paintblogging thing. I gotta say one of the good things about being
unemployed is I'm getting a lot of painting done.
I've gotten my process for getting the illustration onto the canvas down pat. I save a copy
of the line drawing at the same dimensions as the canvas and then measure out key points of
the drawing. Then its just connect the dots to finish it off.

Like the others I get the deepest elements done first. In this case its the sky and the
lightning.

The rock work came next. I'm getting pretty good and doing rock and stone. Its a good thing
too as it seems to be a feature in most of my work. I like working on canvas, I find it
really helps in creating texture.

And just when I'm starting to get sick of blue and grey I get to start adding another color.
I filled in a good chunk of the area that will be slime with a flat dark green. I gotta admit
I'm a little nervous about how this is gonna turn out. I haven't had any luck painting liquids
in the past. Lets hope I can figure out how to do it.

Paintblogging: Frankenstein Vs the Sludge Monster

I'm gonna try my hand at paintblogging again. I love the old monsters so I'm gonna go with
Frankenstein again.. Thought it would be fun to have him in a scrap so I worked out this
Sludge Monster character. He can take a solid form but for the most part he is just a big
puddle.

In the orginal sketch I was going to have them in an old castle with plenty of windows. But
I was just having a hell of a time getting the back wall and window right, so I changed it
to be crumbling ruins. I think it looks better that way.

Got the flat colors laid. As you can see I'm gonna go with a bluish green scheme.  I Tried
to make the sludge monster look like pea soup.

And this is it with the shading done.  I added a lightning bolt to the back to mix it up a little. I usually add a full moon to whatever outdoor scenes I do, thought this would be a nice change. I'm gonna transfer this to a canvas soon. Hope to have some more updates before too long.

Treehouse of Horror V - The Shinning

Starting to get into the Halloween spirit, and what better way than to do my annual Treehouse of Horror fanart. This time I went with the Shinning segment and as you can see I put a psycho looking Homer stalking through the frozen hedge maze. It would have been cool to see them add this to the end of the segment.
Time to start thinking about what to do for next year.

I love the Ro-Men from the Robot Monster movie. Too bad there weren't more movies with them having adventures on other planets.

Count Dracula

Just finished another painting recently. I based it off an great old photo of Bela Lugosi as Dracula. I wasn't too thrilled with it at first but its starting to grow on me. I was worried that Bela looked more like Norm McDonald or Jimmy Carr than himself.  I love Lugosi's movies. The cheaper and cornier the better.

I stopped to visit Lugosi's grave while on a trip to LA back in 2001
